Title: A Great Hunt

| I was out coyote hunting this year. It was a nice, brisk morning and I headed out to a spot on one of my friends land. Placing two of my buddies on the edge of a food plot and myself in a hedgerow on a ridge overlooking a small valley, I started to work the predator mouth call I had brought with me. In literally about 15 minutes, a male and female coyote jumped out of the woods on the bottom of the ridge. As they closed in to about 80 yards, I told my friend sitting with me to get ready.
All of a sudden, the coyote climbed on top of a rock and stuck it head up looking around for the "distressed rabbit" and its scent. Then I went back to calling and it closed in another 45 yards.
At that point, it was heading in straight for me so I made a loud smooching noise with my mouth to get its attention and they I cracked a 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge shell from a single shot shotgun at it, rolling the coyote. Reloading and using my last shell (since I only brought two), the coyote ran 20 yards and stopped, and I gave it to her again. She fell once more but then got up again (she fought hard and I hit her good both times). At that point I was absolutely freaking out because if she didn't go down I would be screwed.
I started shouting to my buddy to give me his gun but the coyote ran another 10 yards and dropped.
That was a really fun hunt. |
